  • The amount of times that I've listened to the Regi golem theme on loop is more than my fingers and toes combined. One of the coolest battle themes in any JRPG.
    Dude, check these out.

Next on my legendary hit list are the Regi golems... [Sighs].

I already voiced my frustration on what you need to do in order to reach each Regi over on RGT, so I'm not going to go into detail about it again. But the cliffsnotes version is that the entire process is beyond cryptic; especially for a kid playing this back in 2003 with little to no information outside of strategy guides.

In order to gain access to each Regi, you need to:
    • Understand Braille
Island Cave Braille (Ruby & Sapphire) Translation.jpg
Ancient Tomb Braille (Ruby & Sapphire) Translation.jpg

    • Know to Catch Relicanth & Wailord

    • Know to Have Them in the First and Last Slots of the Party

    • Know to Have a Pokemon with "Dig" and "Strength" ("Rock Smash" in Emerald)
    • Know to Have a Pokemon with "Fly" ("Flash" in Emerald)

What little kid is going to consider doing ANY OF THIS?

Only reason I knew about any of that as a kid was because of a GBA magazine I had. They had a write-in section where they would answer questions the readers had about various games, and getting the Regi trio was a very popular question. They even printed out the braille alphabet in one of their magazine issues at one point.

And with this, I have now completed the 3rd Generation of Pokemon for the very first time.

I can definitely see why this is a lot of people's favorite Gen. Hoenn is a ton of fun to explore. The new Pokemon from this Gen are iconic. Team Magma / Aqua (depending on which version you're playing) are fun antagonists with a similar level of charm as Team Rocket. The newly introduced Double Battles and Abilities introduce more strategic planning than ever before and can really turn the tide of battle. Lastly, the soundtrack is phenomenal. It's really diverse and complements each area well.

As for this sprite hack, it's great. There wasn't a single new sprite that I didn't like. They're all really cute and have so much detail (probably more than the original Pocket Monsters themselves lol). There were a couple times where I looked for a specific Pokemon just to see what they looked like in this hack (Namely, Cacnea, Jigglypuff, Shuppet, and Tropius).

It's incentivizing me to find what each legendary and/or mythical Pokemon looks like (besides Groudon since I already have it lol).

mega starmie is therorized to be a collection of references to the super sentai and kaiju genre, as well as staryu and starmie as well. they do poses like the sentai characters and staryu, starmie and mega starmie were inspired by space starfish from a 70's monster movie in japan.
this video goes over mega starmie and shows off some of the possible inspirations for it:

While I do see the connections I like it better thinking this was probably just a stupid simple joke. I don't think we needed a video on it, that's just taking away the magic of the meme.

I like this comment, I wish this was the real reason

it is quite possible that they did just reference the scene from the spongebob movie. it would be the funniest outcome of this situation.
but the devs of pokemon do seem to be aware of stuff that goes on out here on the net. there is a trainer in scarlet and violet that looks like moistcritikal. and they do occasionally make fun of themselves doing stuff in their games, like the roadblocks. one pkmn game has a bunch of kids running around in a circle blocking your path to a new area. they straight up just say that they are there today, and will leave sometime later. it's something to that effect.
so, there's no real telling why mega starmie looks like this. they might drop some info in the future, but in the meantime, we will wait and see what kind of memes the internet makes with the long legged starfish.

Alright, I'm back where I was! I'll tackle the Elite Four tomorrow as I'd like to catch up on "Shuumatsu Touring" and a couple other anime lol.

(LOOK AT THAT "MONEY" LOL!! (Bear in mind that I had Slavinator (Zigzagoon) in my party during the grind session and it found 10 "Nuggets", so 50,000 Poké Dollars are from those alone.))

Been meaning to ask: Is this the base Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald just with sprite swaps? I thought I was booting up the base Emerald version of Moemon last night, but it's like some expanded version of Emerald with a bunch of extra/changed stuff.

Yeah, it's called Star Emerald. Honestly, I just grabbed the first Moemon thing I saw on Pokeharbor, a website for pre-patched Pokemon rom hacks. Probably would've helped if I'd actually read the page instead of just going straight for the download hehe:sailor-embarrassed:
OK... Back at the entrance of the Pokemon League. Before I grind, I want to look for any "PP Ups" that I missed.

    i found this on google:
"In Pokémon Ruby, there is no set, finite number of PP Ups you can get, as some are found in fixed locations while others can be obtained repeatedly. The total number of fixed PP Ups you can collect throughout the game is not specified, but the following are guaranteed methods for obtaining them:
    Limited availability PP Ups:
Meteor Falls: Located within the cave system.
Victory Road: Found within the final dungeon.
Lilycove City: Found within the city.
    Route 104: On this route.
Route 109: Located on the beach section of the route.
Unlimited (but less reliable) PP Ups:
Pickup Ability: If you have a Pokémon with the Pickup ability, such as Zigzagoon or Linoone, they may randomly find a PP Up after a battle, especially at higher levels.
Lilycove Lottery: At the Lilycove Department Store, you can get a PP Up as a prize if you match the last two digits of your Trainer ID number with the daily lottery number."

Yeaaah... I already located them all about a few hours ago (with a little help from Bulpapedia, of course).

Still, I appreciate you trying to help out here.

you're welcome. and it's not completely pointless to have the info here. anyone else that wants to play the game now has the info in a more convenient and quicker place to look for it.

@Nebulon_Galaxy Yeah, lol. I used GBA.EMU's "8x Speed" feature throughout the whole game. As of writing this, I've just beaten Wally at Victory Road and am now ready to grind to Lv. 60 again.

But first, I wanna scour the world in search of any "PP Ups" that I happened to miss - so I can get more uses out of "Giga Drain", "Psychic", "Earthquake", etc.
Now that I'm in Fortree City, I gotta ask... What's up with the in-game trades in this Gen?

Like, in Gens 1 & 2, I can recall plenty of useful in-game trade NPCs; Specifically, the ones that had a Pokemon that was useful against a certain Gym.

But in this game (as well as Emerald if memory serves from watching Chuggaa's LP), literally ALL OF THEM suck. Why on earth would I take a Skitty over a Pikachu? Even when fully evolved, Delcatty is just really weak and outclassed and many other Normal Types (Hell, you can get Jigglypuff by Surfing to a remote area on Route... I forgot the exact number lol).

I think I'll have to boot this up myself sometime. I find myself wanting to ask "What does this or that Pokemon look like" but maybe I should just play it for myself

    Scotty's EXTREMELY LUCKY 2nd Run-in With Fauna the Shroomish.jpg

(UPDATE: Took me exactly ONE fishing encounter to find a Tentacool with "Clear Body" in Dewford Town. Welcome back, Jelee.💙)

    Scotty's Even MORE INSANE 2nd Run-in...With Jelee.jpg

(I'm making HEAVY use of GBA.EMU'S "8x Speed Function". Hard to believe that within, like, an hour or two I'm ALREADY at Mauville lol.)

(In my haste to speed up and hit "B" during battle menus to advance the text, I accidentally left "Scratch" on Combusken as it was learning "Double Kick". Luckily, the game gives you 3 Heart Scales at this point and Fallarbor Town (where the Move Reminder is located in) isn't too terribly far from Mauville.)

(UPDATE #2: Reclaimed Liz Bloodflame (Skarmory) and re-taught "Double Kick" to Combusken. I REALLY should pay close attention to battle text when speeding everything up lol.)
