The goal of this guide is to provide a quick reference for those beating Casltevania 64 (the original one) with Carrie.

While playing around blindly can be fun for a while, this game is extremely cryptic to progress by modern standards.

Alternatively, here's a video walkthrough I found on youtube.
You might have to seek through the video a few times to get to the point.

GENERAL TIPS

Check back on these when you're having difficult figuring how your character or the camera works.
For convenience, you can leave this part opened in a separate tab and the levels guide in another.

Controls

A - Jumps
  • You have little control of your direction while jumping, so make sure to jump right!
  • You do however have more control in the height of your jump, depending on how much you hold the A button.

B - Magic Orb!
  • Hold it to charge it's power.
  • It has three levels: Red, Purple and Green, each one stronger than the previous. Collect that gray pickup thing to increase its power!
  • Upon dying, it reverts back to Red.

C▲ - Changes camera mode
There's tree camera modes: Normal Camera, Action Camera and Battle Camera.
  • Normal Camera attempts to be the more convenient and interesting one in general situations. I recommend sticking to this one.
  • Action Camera aggressively puts the camera behind your character as much as possible.
  • Battle Camera will make the camera try to look at enemies when they're around. It doesn't work well when there's no enemies.

C▲ (hold) - Looks in first person
C◄ - Melee attack
C► - Picks up item from ground / interacts with the scenario
C▼ - Uses the last attack item you picked up (knife / cross / axe / holy water). Consumes red gems!

R - Centers the camera (very useful for controlling the camera!)
R (when looking at enemy) - locks on to them. Unfortunately, you can't move while holding it.

Z - ducks. Useful for being able to hit things that are on the ground.
Z (while moving) - slides into the ground! Weeee!

Start - Here you can recover your health by eating food you collected, as well using other items.

Dodge system

This game has a weird dodge system.
By jumping at the same time you move your stick to either Carrie's left, right or behind, she will do a short and fast jump to that direction.
Unfortunately, this can kill you a lot while you get used to it, so be sure to pay attention.

Grabbing ledges

To grab on a ledge, you must be holding the jump button.

Climbing and moving to the sides is relative to your controller, not to the game's camera!
So if you want to go left or right, you drag your stick to its own left and right. Not to Carrie's left and right.
To climb, drag your stick up.

Tricky platforms

Careful in tricky platforms like these!!
Move your stick slowly, or else you'll send Carrie right into the abyss.
As you move patiently, the game might help you by automatically adjusting the camera to a more contextual angle.

Saving

Save often (by interacting with the white gems) and don't be afraid of using save states! This game can be frustrating on your first playthrough!

Collect Items!

Not only food, money and powerups, but also a few Sun and Moon cards (doesn't need to be a lot, but a few). Those will come into play later.

Level 1: Forest of Silence

The layout of this forest looks confusing, but it follows a pattern.

In each section you find a branching path with a sign point at one of them. This sign will be pointing at a locked gate, so you go to the other path, push a lever, then come back and that gate will be now unlocked. This pattern repeats.

At some point, you'll hit a dead end after pushing a lever, so you go back one section to push a lever that was previously locked, then come back.

Anyway, here it is, one step at a time:

Go right:

Cross the broken bridge and push the lever:

2.png

Come back, now the gate will be unlocked:

3.png

Go right:

4.png

Cross this other broken bridge and push this lever:

5.png

It will descend down after you do that. Be sure to descend slowly into the platforms!

The previous gate will now be unlocked:

Keep going forward, be careful of that motherfucker skeleton, he can throw a bone while you're in the air.

8.png.png

Go left:

9.png.png

Descend:

10.png

Careful, again, move your stick slowly:

11.png.png

Push the lever, then come back:

12.png

The gate will still be unlocked. So now, go backwards one section:

14.png.png

Backtrack this part:

15.png.png

To to the path where was previously a locked gate before:

16.png.png

Enter it:

17.png

Push the lever:

18.png

Now come back:

19.png

And go through once again through that bridge.

20.png.png

After this, go to the now opened gate and you'll find the boss there.

Level 2: Castle Wall

Climb up the tower.

After the boss fight, push the lever:

1757185726201.png

A gate will open, where you can climb down and return to the starting area.

After returning there, a new part will open up, look for a key:

1757185804126.png

Now you can open this other door:

1757185852382.png

In case it isn't night time, you have to either use a moon card or wait to open this door:
(If you have to wait, you can press F4 to fast forward if you're in RMG or Project 64)

1757185904538.png

After Carrie pushes the level there, you can climb down and return to the starting area again, and the other gate will now be open:

Level 3: Villa (mansion)

Climb the stairs and go left:

2-1.png.png

Enter this door:

2-2.png.png

Upon arriving in this room, If it's daytime, use the moon card.
Then wait for the clock to hit the time circled in the image.
Fast-forward if you can afford to (F4 in RMG or Project 64).
A cutscene should play then. If it already plays by just getting there, you got lucky.

Climb the stairs, then go to the first door in the corridor:

2-4.png.png

Enter the other door inside that room, meet this guy, watch the cutscene, then talk to him again:

1757182252690.png

If Vincent doesn't says this, it means you haven't talked to the vampire lady in the flower room. Scroll back to see how to meet her.
Unfortunately, after meeting Vincent from the first time, he'll start to sleep during the night and be awake only in the morning, which means you'll have to either wait for that too or use a sun card.

If you just saw this dialogue however, then move on.

Go to the last door in corridor:

1757182595764.png

You should be in this room now:

1757182637165.png

Go to the other door:

1757182675825.png

Use the key you got from Vincent in this door:

1757182720021.png

You should be able to find a new key:

1757182752968.png

Go back to the corridor. Enter any of these doors to get in a big room:

1757182825081.png

Enter these doors:

1757182857268.png

Go down:

1757182905170.png

Unlock the gate:

Level 3: Villa (maze)

Turn right:

1757183771335.png

A cutscene should play upon entering here:

1757183806596.png

Follow the kid until another cutscene plays.

After that, go through this corridor:

1757187093344.png

1757187131064.png

Keep going:

1757187164576.png

You'll find a key here:

1757187198243.png

Go back, go back to the door you came from:

1757187314161.png

Go left:

1757187387701.png

Enter the door:

1757187412106.png

Go forward:

1757187479883.png

Go left:

1757187513818.png

Open the door:

1757187539140.png

The path should be straight forward from now on:

1757187560609.png
