The goal of this guide is to provide a quick reference for those beating Casltevania 64 (the original one) with Carrie.
While playing around blindly can be fun for a while, this game is extremely cryptic to progress by modern standards.
Alternatively, here's a video walkthrough I found on youtube.
You might have to seek through the video a few times to get to the point.
GENERAL TIPS
Check back on these when you're having difficult figuring how your character or the camera works.
For convenience, you can leave this part opened in a separate tab and the levels guide in another.
Controls
A - Jumps
B - Magic Orb!
C▲ - Changes camera mode
There's tree camera modes: Normal Camera, Action Camera and Battle Camera.
C▲ (hold) - Looks in first person
C◄ - Melee attack
C► - Picks up item from ground / interacts with the scenario
C▼ - Uses the last attack item you picked up (knife / cross / axe / holy water). Consumes red gems!
R - Centers the camera (very useful for controlling the camera!)
R (when looking at enemy) - locks on to them. Unfortunately, you can't move while holding it.
Z - ducks. Useful for being able to hit things that are on the ground.
Z (while moving) - slides into the ground! Weeee!
Start - Here you can recover your health by eating food you collected, as well using other items.
Dodge system
This game has a weird dodge system.
By jumping at the same time you move your stick to either Carrie's left, right or behind, she will do a short and fast jump to that direction.
Unfortunately, this can kill you a lot while you get used to it, so be sure to pay attention.
Grabbing ledges
To grab on a ledge, you must be holding the jump button.
Climbing and moving to the sides is relative to your controller, not to the game's camera!
So if you want to go left or right, you drag your stick to its own left and right. Not to Carrie's left and right.
To climb, drag your stick up.
Tricky platforms
Careful in tricky platforms like these!!
Move your stick slowly, or else you'll send Carrie right into the abyss.
As you move patiently, the game might help you by automatically adjusting the camera to a more contextual angle.

Saving
Save often (by interacting with the white gems) and don't be afraid of using save states! This game can be frustrating on your first playthrough!
Collect Items!
Not only food, money and powerups, but also a few Sun and Moon cards (doesn't need to be a lot, but a few). Those will come into play later.

Controls
A - Jumps
- You have little control of your direction while jumping, so make sure to jump right!
- You do however have more control in the height of your jump, depending on how much you hold the A button.
B - Magic Orb!
- Hold it to charge it's power.
- It has three levels: Red, Purple and Green, each one stronger than the previous. Collect that gray pickup thing to increase its power!
- Upon dying, it reverts back to Red.
C▲ - Changes camera mode
There's tree camera modes: Normal Camera, Action Camera and Battle Camera.
- Normal Camera attempts to be the more convenient and interesting one in general situations. I recommend sticking to this one.
- Action Camera aggressively puts the camera behind your character as much as possible.
- Battle Camera will make the camera try to look at enemies when they're around. It doesn't work well when there's no enemies.
