"Miss" can mean anywhere from a desperate urge to a "mmmm.... maybe someday".

I've decided to continue the conversation from this status here:

In the sense that you like it and want to play it again, or in the sense that you dislike it and want to give it another shot?
My opinion from this game is mixed. In my childhood, it was the coolest thing ever. In my adulthood I began seeing as this clunky sequel that fails to replicate the magic of the original, a game I hold in a so high regard that it's on my top 2.

But for a while I've been wondering why the sequel still feels special. Despite sharing the same core formula, it has a distinct identity from the original, but one that is also magical in it's own way.

Banjo-Kazooie is a game that I play every once in a while and it's always an amazing experience, while Banjo-Tooie is a game I have to like... be in the mood for it. It's not for impatient people, and I happen to be one nowadays most of the time. To replay it I gotta go back to that spiritual state I had in my childhood where games were exciting and immersive for what they had to offer instead of trying too hard to be appealing and addicting.

yk i recently booted this game up and looks horrendous, i know n64 games dont age well, but damn its definitely a game of its time. plays fantastic tho
N64 aesthetic is peak for me. But I respect your opinion :3

I will say though that that spot where they tried to use tree textures on a wall didn't look good.

Ah, in that sense...yeah, a tragic reality is that just as the world that made games we love no longer exists, the us that loved those games may also no longer exist.

Also, your linked response to Nebulon doesn't work, for me. I don't have permission to view that page.

As for my own games...I want to go back to a lot of old VNs. Ever-17, Yume Miru Kusuri, Katawa Shoujo, Daibanchou...things I gave a high score to, but may not hold up in present day, present time. Persona 3 Portable dropped from a ten to a four because I replayed it last year, so it's entirely possible. Some other ones that've rattled in my brain since I played them at least twelve years ago, too. Free Friends 2, [redacted, because I'd only share this in spicy], and Bible Black, amongst other things. Heartache 101 was accidentally(?) compelling enough that I wrote a 14k (encroaching 15k on editing) word essay on one of its characters, so surely there's something past me saw that deeply fascinated them, but they didn't have the words to say.

I'd also like to replay the original Kingdom Hearts. Not Final Mix, but vanilla...though, I'd also like to replay Final Mix.

I’m big on replays. I replay all Yakuza mainline games every other year (all 14 games, yes), I’ve re-100%ed a few games, like bully and Yakuza 7 and now working on dark souls 1 and a couple others.

I'm usually in a state of wanting to replay a bunch of games all at once. The Yakuza games, Kingdom Hearts, Persona, Fire Emblem. Between that and wanting to play some new games, I sometimes get a bit of choice paralysis and don't play much of anything.

I'll admit, I rarely replay games nowadays because I feel like I have a ton of things I want to play, and I won't have time. That's why me replaying Samurai Remnant and Valkyrie Profile were rare outliers and even then I think it's the idea of having multiple endings that encouraged me to do it.

Sometimes I feel like replaying Muramasa The Demon Blade or Muramasa Rebirth for the first time since like... high school, and hopefully I can find a way to emulate Vita games and maybe the DLC to do it on Twitch.

SMT 1 for me. Is not about the if i want to or not, is more about when i can sink a lot of hours on SMT again :3 SMT1 even if is not my favorite of the franchise (SMT4 MY GOAT) is always a game i had a lot of respect and legit enjoy playing. I played the original SMT on the Super Famicom with the Aeon Genesis English patch, and now there are a lot more options, as both the psx and the gba ports have been translated. But i haven't made time for myself to get back in to demon fusing :3

That's one of the coolest box arts / posters I've ever seen.

Usually in posters in general they do this thing where they place characters with disproportional sizes to showcase them in a way that make them stand out. It's at its best when there's a dramatic or artistic sinergy with the context, and it's at its worse when they they're just sorta there.

in this case, though? They all feel life-sized, which makes their presence much more impactful and intimidating. I don't know if that's their actual canonical sizes, but it sure looks cool!

May I ask why you like SMT4, out of curiosity?

The PSX version of SMT1 is very solid, though. Would recommend playing that one, since it's got good auto battle (it remembers your previous actions and repeats them, aa opposed to the SFC), on top of a new, more faithful translation that's fun to see the differences in.

Also, agreed that the box art is incredible.

Between the really interesting story, my favorite "bad ending" in the series for the 4th wall breaking implications
The white ending where is assumed is the player who want to put smt4 world out of it missery and not flynn
and overall being a solid entry overall, both in gameplay, pacing (except for the neutral ending) and designs overall (hot take in that of course, but i really like some of the grottesque non sense demons designs of SMT4 but i can see some people prefering the older designs in some of them).

Do others SMT games do things better than 4? Yeah, although in most case is up to personal taste, i think SMT SJ has the better story and cast, and SMT III my favorite version of the apocalyptic Tokyo. But SMT4 just came to me in the right time, and is a game that i cannot get out of my mind how many emotions i got while playing.

I see, I see. Thank you for elaborating; it's much appreciated.
