In light recent events, you might wanna consider holding onto your original copies of Yakuza 0-K2, if you either still own them or plan to buy them before December 8th comes, as old mods are not guaranteed to work on the newer re-releases.
This articles aims to help you get the most out of your pre-existing copies of the three games, and grant you an experience that’s even better to what the official remasters could hope to achieve.
But first, you may wanna keep a few nuggets of knowledge at hand. There’s a few mods, such as Silly Mod and Style Switching Rebalanced mods, that may not properly work on the newest version of Shin Ryu Mod Manager (GitHub link) according to both the authors and troubleshooting sections, so you may do a little homework in advance.
Luckily, that will not be a worry in the mods I’ll link, so sit back, relax and let’s relish in great community mods.
Legend Remix for
It is nigh impossible to miss TripleAAA’s behemoth of a workload, but the mention is necessary nonetheless, as this legendary mod creator has quite the track record of making various overhaul mods, including even later entries like Yakuza 6.
TripleAAA is a complete master class at his work, and one to keep the look-out for. He also hasn’t stopped at Yakuza, as he made mods for Judgment and Lost Judgment too. It can’t be understated how great his understanding of what should go into a great moveset mod. Even if you feel content with Yakuza’s combat, you should try these mods anyways, as they provide essential quality of life fixes such as better combat speed and true instantaneous style switching.
Yakuza 0 Exactions Mod
Do you just want Yakuza 0, but with a fresh coat of paint? Say no more! This is an overhaul mod that brings some moves, heat actions and even brand new dynamic intros from across the series and onto 0!
What started out as a humble port project due to judgment being previously not on pc has evolved into something much bigger.
Best part? It’s even compatible with the Yakuza 0 co-op mod! So knock yourself out.
Kiwami 1 Redux by Skirish
Our third and final entry comes from non other than another modding legend, Skirish, who’s also responsible for the excellent Detective Essentials mod for Judge Eyed.
Here’s a description snippet:
That should speak for itself. Skirish is essentially on par with TripleAAA, so you should expect nothing but quality overhauls here.Kiwami Redux is a mod that alters the base experience of Kiwami, to make the styles and overall feel of the game more concurrent with Yakuza 0. As well as make the entire gameplay loop feel more responsive and engaging.
And if you’re not entirely convinced, in Skirish’s own words, “Real Yakuza play with Mods”, that’s quite the shut and open case.
Closing notes:
It should become clear that recommendations are naturally gonna be skewed in one direction or another, the reason this highlights only a handful of overhaul mods is because they lack compatibility with each other, but that should be obvious if you have the slightest knowledge of how mod files work.
Basically, if two mods replace the same file then it could create conflict, so it’s best to toggle some mods on and off at a time.
This article also left out skins and audio mods as there’s a chance they could still with the remasters, it’s just movesets are more delicate.
But if you need one obligatory skin mod, may direct you to this?
These two mods right here is what kickstared my wonderful ascension to the glorious insanity of Yakuza mods. CJ and Frank West? Two of my all time fictional characters in my third favorite gaming series (I prefer gta and musous)? I just could not take my eyes off of it.
You want the best part? I’m currently great friends with the creator, 2v/2vio, she’s one of the best people ever and I could not be happier to have made such a life-changing connection.
Now onto some housecleaning …
Heh, it sure feels like a while since I last did one of these sections. This did initially start out as a piece meant for RGT, but it became overwhelmingly tricky to publish this due to my accumulating social anxiety. Gaming Heaven acted as like a perfect middle ground for me to continue practicing my crafts. These articles take time, a TON of time, like research on this single piece alone took me months actually, so it’s kind of a nice coincidence the stars aligned and now 0-K2 are the talk of the town again just like a decade ago when I first got into this series on my ps4, such a wonderful beast.
If you want to support me, all you really need is dropping a word. It does actually mean the world when people humor my insane writing and dumpster of thoughts, and I do enjoy sharing bits of my insanity, so thank you for this rather wonderful opportunity.
What’s next? I really don’t know. I keep saying I’m just practicing and that’s still true however if the stars align again, I’d like to make a top 20 of my favorite 7th gen games of all time, as it recently became my favorite gen ever. I’ll explain why once that article hopefully drops.
That’s all, take care and have fun with the holidays.
