Giant Sized X-Men #1

If I was more of a superhero guy maybe I'd appreciate this more but alas, I couldn't even tell you 10% of the superhero names that exist in this universe. Like, I really like the Xmen members for whatever reason (maybe it's the combination of their designs & characters & maybe Patrick Stewart in the movies), but beyond that I know zilch.

Thanks for the Storm trivia. You sure can rant about superhero stuff huh!

Great article! I'm not an expert on the X-Men by any means, but i read some titles from different eras (Generation X or the Muties miniseries from Marvel Max) and one-shot stories like LifeDeath, drawn by the one and only Barry Windsor Smith. Regarding the contributions of the creative teams, i always have the impression that most Marvel artists from the seventies tends to be forgotten in favor of the writers, wich is an odd thing if you know the Marvel Method of comics production: both Dave Cockrum and Gil Kane were excellent designers and his influence on the genre is still relevant.

Oh, you have no idea about my power level.

Basically, but Cockrum here also doesn't get his due too often after the legendary John Byrne takes over later for the majority of the Uncanny run. It's a shame, the guy visually invented the character designs and yet you don't hear his name associated with X-Men too often.

And yeah, the writers do get generally focused on more than the artists despite them having arguably the harder job. Marvel's kind of infamous for that specifically.

Cockrum work on the Legion of Superheroes was ahead of his time, there's a similarity between the design of Nightcrawler and Wolverine and the look of Timber Wolf or Chameleon Boy.
