KDE seems to be the most popular desktop environment but I can't move away from Gnome; it's my cozy spot. Why do you guys like about KDE?

It’s pretty user friendly, highly customizable, polished, and for me personally very familiar. KDE was my first Linux GUI bc of steam deck’s OS, and I kind of stuck with it out of habit and preference. It’s also pretty similar to classic windows GUI but a lot of them mimic that (no shade, I like it).

What do you like about gnome?? Sell me on it plz I need to distrohop again lol (or at least try a new GUI)

I like Gnome but I wouldn't distrohop for it, lol

I guess because I never really gelled with the Windows environment, I prefer Gnome's mimicry of the MacOS DE. I like having a floating dock at the bottom of the screen with my most used applications instead of a traditional start menu; looks more modern to me. Plus, in my current distro (EndeavourOS), the dock is hidden by default unless I hit my 'Windows' key to pull it up. In that view, I can also start typing to immediately search for any application or even move windows manually to other desktops (there are multiple to help with organization and I can always add more if I need them; the OS automatically collapses desktops that aren't currently in use.)

With this system, I'm never in a menu searching for stuff, so it's a lot faster. In the rare occasion that I do look through a menu, it's full screen and not relegated to a small window on the bottom left corner of the screen. I also hate desktop icons, so I like having it looking clean and neat. I know KDE can mimic a MacOS DE by downloading a dock app but I like that Gnome has the functionality OOTB. I don't need to add anything; to quote our Lord Todd, "It Just Works"
