Unfortunately not. It's in that spot where it's got some ideas that really speak to me, but is mediocre enough that they aren't exactly executed properly. There's a major through-line, but not only is it all subtext, but the game is also rated PG, and this is at least a PG-13 topic. Even if it should be PG so that people it happens to can talk about it.

On the surface? It's a dating sim (think Tokimeki Memorial) where you have 100 days to find a girlfriend (complete any girl's primary arc) and keep her lovesick until the days are up, upon which you get a (poorly written) ending.

In subtext?
For the character I'm obsessed with (Shihoko): trust, abuse of power, childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and its long-term consequences, half-truths, and safety.
There's also other characters that deal in their own topics. Shihoko's sister has her own issues, as she's very obviously "the child who didn't have anything happen to her" in how she behaves and what she wants.

This game also has the single worst depression character I've ever seen, to the point it would be less offensive if it were intentional.

It is! Which is why I'm glad that all of this is subtext, because I know that it would be super terrible if the author said it outright. As bad as it is, it could be so much worse.

Once I finish the Thousand Year Door remake, I plan on playing Donkey Kong Bananza since my bf got that for me for my birthday.
