Here's one of the more aggregious forms of DRM around that time, known as StarForce, which acted like a rootkit-of course, it's from a Russian company.

The whole debacle with gta forums was extremely funny to read about, what with how crackers sent out pirated copies of the game before properly checking to see if the game was fully completable, leading to tons of users complaining it wasn’t cracked properly, and Rockstar at the time having difficulty filtering out users with genuine copies due to how shitty the internet was at the time.

Also, shaky camera is a rather cursed trend in piracy protection in gta, including the infamous permanent drunk camera in gta 4.
