Oddly interesting videos

Here's one of the more aggregious forms of DRM around that time, known as StarForce, which acted like a rootkit-of course, it's from a Russian company.

The whole debacle with gta forums was extremely funny to read about, what with how crackers sent out pirated copies of the game before properly checking to see if the game was fully completable, leading to tons of users complaining it wasn’t cracked properly, and Rockstar at the time having difficulty filtering out users with genuine copies due to how shitty the internet was at the time.

Also, shaky camera is a rather cursed trend in piracy protection in gta, including the infamous permanent drunk camera in gta 4.

@Yousef Another interesting video for you. It's a deep-dive into how Denuvo DRM works, but let's face it, Denuvo is nothing new and is well documented amongst other places.

Thank you so much for the share, it is a really fascinating deep dive into denuvo (I hate spelling that word cuz we don’t have the AIEOU vowel system in my language xD)

That reminds me, me and my friends been contemplating the likelihood of swapping the executable for demos with the official games, now it’s probably not that straightforward but it’s worth researching for sure xD.

I’m rarely online on my Steam account so launching games offline would be very handy. :]

:mikuheart:I had a video ready to be shared but I seem unable to find it as of the time of me typing this but thank you for thinking of me when coming across this useful tidbit. :]

Bootleg PlayStation games that are pressed discs, these are "GameStation" games that try to mimick the art of a real PS1 game.

They come pressed on HK silvers, which means that they were made in Hong Kong or China, where bootlegging games was popular, and that they'd press them onto silver discs, like you'd get at a store.

This is actually neat, never knew about these ones in particluar. But the fact that you still need a modded console or exploits just to get the game running kinda defeats the purpose, no? Like if you have a modded console, chances are your intentions are probably to burn/play stuff yourself, or just directly buy the imports. Weird.
Unrelated but silver ps1 cds are cool, makes me kinda wish all companies did PS1 reprints like Square Enix.

Mhm, still needs a modded console, since no bootleg game (except the Action Replay discs with the SCEX "wobble") require a modchip or cheat cartridge with auto-stop to boot.

It's present on some "Greatest Hits" releases, they're not bootlegs, it's actually cool that they do exist officially.
