Goes without saying that this is a heavy-handed topic. It can include anything. Phobias, philosophical questions, heat of the moment anxieties, anything.
I’ll start off with something a bit more philosophical, but it requires a bit of setup.
First of all, how do you feel about the people that matter to you? It sounds like a roundabout question, like something that already answers itself. Kind of like “well I drink water because I’m thirsty”. But… do you now?
Indeed you likely figured out by now that it’s not a problem that can be taken at face value. The question of “how do you feel about the people you care about” attempts to point out potential hypocrisy. It’s sort of in the “treat people how you want them to treat you” type of ballpark. Basically, do you care about someone because you care about them or do you care about because you want them to care about you?
The phrasing might make it seem weird but there’s no right or wrong answer here. It’s addressing the human condition. We have both selfless and selfish intents, we don’t strictly lean one way or another. Some do, those can be good or bad people, but that would depend on time and place.
Well, based on what I told you, I’ll now share with you my biggest fear. My biggest fear in life is that I may not be important to people who are important to me. (Essentially, do I matter to people I care about? Or am I just background noise to them?). That thought often leaves me freezing. I know that on surface it sounds like it’s not a big deal, but think about it. It’s very similar to fear of death, fear of hell or fear of loneliness in the sense that you think you’re not scared of it, but you give it a second or two of thought and you start to become filled with existential dread. But that’s enough philosophy. The idea I shared is incredibly scary and has been haunting me all year, but there’s no point in dwelling on it.
I wanna know what phobias you guys have. Are you agoraphobic like me? Maybe not.
Are you pyrophobic? Hydrophobic? Claustrophobic? Thanataphobic? Kingdomheartphobic? I’m certainly the last one. Lemme tell yea, it’s horror…
